Snowbank – Watercolor on 300 lb Arches Cold Press paper

This Winter, PatternART Studio will be offering watercolor painting classes in Studio 14 inside the historic Morgan Block Building in downtown Fairhaven. Ron Pattern is an award winning Artist and a signature member with the Northwest Watercolor Society. Ron has paintings in Corporate and private collections throughout North America.

” I will be offering beginner and advanced classes using transparent watercolor. Students will learn traditional watercolor painting techniques such as gradiated wash, using liquid mask to preserve hi-lights, drybrush techniques and much more. Once these skills have been demonstrated and practised, we can move on to rendering objects and landscapes. The class will consist of four, two hour sessions and will cost $140.

Watercolor is a very expressive medium, I’ve heard it said that if oil painting compares to classical music, watercolor is akin to jazz”.

As a young aspiring artist, I studied the watercolor paintings of Winslow Homer https://www.winslow-homer.com/, Andrew Wyeth https://andrewwyeth.com/ and Ken Danby http://www.kendanbyart.ca/. Andrew Wyeth’s watercolors in particular greatly inspired me, His drybrush technique, which he called “color weaving” produced incredibly expressive paintings of luscious texture and depth. The images attached to this blog are all watercolor paintings on paper that I have painted over the years.

Email me at patternart@yahoo.com or text me at 360-820-8025 if you are interested in exploring this expressive medium, class participants must be fully vaccinated.
