This particular dimensional Mural now graces the entrance to the Surgical Recovery ward at St Joseph Hospital. It, along with “Mountain Meadow” are the final pieces of a Covid interrupted, long drawn out artist commission contract. This complex assignment was challenging, as the multiple layers had to be shaped to fit the curved wall. I knew the Sintra material pretty well from my days as a commercial sign maker, so using a couple of heat guns I managed to thermoform the material. The curve didn’t match exactly, and also when I rendered the painting with Acrylic paint on the front of the curve, it tended to try to flatted the image out. On install we used some hefty sheet rock anchors along with 3M VHB tape to wrap the Sintra around the curve and the high bond adhesive tape aided in accurately installing the mural on the curved wall. This beloved Bellingham scene of Whatcom Falls is well known to us lucky locals, Whatcom Falls Park is a gem in the middle of this City.
This 24″ x 48″ multi layered mural was commissioned to fill an empty space across from the Nurses Station. I chose an image that I thought would compliment the Mount Shuksan mural right next door that I had installed last March. I chose mostly neutral grays for the peaks and a bright green foreground with magenta and cadmium flower highlights. I very much enjoyed this challenging project, spending many hours on each mural, so I am painting small watercolor paintings that i can complete in one or two studio sessions. The following images are some of these.
“Bare Bones” and “Sentinels” and “Skagit Sunset” are watercolor paintings, I think around 11″ x 14″. I will be offering Watercolor classes from my Studio/Gallery in the historic Morgan Block, this January; four-two hour classes for $140, I keep the schedule flexible as far as days and time, whatever works best for the group. Email or text me if interested.

Hello Ron, I am interested in hearing more details about your watercolor class next month: what time of day & day of week do you think you will most likely teach this? I am usually free on Thursday-Saturday evenings. Also, will you be teaching technique or is there also an objective to complete one image during this class? Lastly, what level of experience is optimal for the student to have? Thanks!
