I posted this painting again because it will be included in North Beach Artists Guild “Northwest Reflections” art competition at their gallery in Ocean Shores opening August 21. This is an egg tempera painting, its one of my personal favourites and it also recieved an Honourable Mention award.

A sure sign of life returning to somewhat normal is the resumption of Fairhaven Art Walk which will be happening Friday July 23rd. The Morgan Block artist studios and galleries at 1000 Harris Avenue in downtown Fairhaven will be open to the public for the first time since March 2020.

PatternArt Studio and Gallery will be open as well as Nancy Canyon, Ben Mann, John Tolomei, Nikki Lang, Mari-Jo Martini and Donna Rushing so there will be a wide variety of artists and craftspeople to view. Studios on the second third floor of the Morgan Block will be open for art walk from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Come on out to see and support Bellingham’s arts and artisan community.

I am currently working on several commission paintings which I will post once completed. Commissioned paintings are good for the artist because the piece is already sold before the work has begun, definitely helps pay the studio rent.

Commissions can be a delicate balance between the artist’s process and integrity and the expectation of the paying client. I always make it clear to a prospective client that micro managing is not part of the process. Once the subject is presented, I produce a sketch and maybe offer suggestions to enhance composition and visual drama. Once the concept is agreed upon, the vision and completion of the painting is the sole responsibility of the artist.

This painting is a recent commission I painted for a returning art collector. He provided a reference piece for the landscape, I suggested adding the eagle and dramatizing the sky, this collaboration resulted in a successful painting the client was happy with.

Original art can hold much meaning to the viewer, like a talisman, some people become emotionally attached to a painting and they can become cherished family heirlooms.

Next time your shopping for something original and unique, consider commissioning an artist or artisan to produce a one of a kind treasure.

Thank You for reading my blogpost, keep on truckin, brighter days ahead
