“Bellingham Bay” 36″ x 60″ Acrylic on Canvas

This latest painting from PatternArt Studio & Gallery was commissioned by a local art patron. They requested a scene from Bellingham Bay showing off Mount Baker and the Twin Sisters with five Orcas representing their family. This is a big painting, 3′-0″ x 5′-0″, painted with acrylic pigments on canvas. Anybody who has painted a large surface with acrylic paint will know how challenging it is to get a subtely blended sky, orange to blue. It took about 5 patient days and lots of medium. This painting and many more will be on display this final weekend of the Whatcom Artist Studio.

Come on out this Saturday and Sunday for the final weekend of the Tour with over 60 creative studios open to the public throughout Whatcom County. The Morgan Block in Fairhaven, 1000 Harris Avenue is hosting four open studios. Nancy Canyon and MariJo Martini on the second floor and PatternArt Studio and Jillene Smith on the third floor. Studios will be open from 10am to 5pm both days.

Nancy Canyon will have her new book “Women’s Bodies, Women’s Words” on display and for sale in her Morgan Block second floor studio. Her group, Wildhaven Writers will have a public reading from the publication at Village Books on October 20 at 6pm. You can sign up to attend this event at Village Books http://www.villagebooks.com . A favourite Bellingham art event, Dakota Art’s annual 6″ x 6″ donation fundraiser is coming up this November, https://dakotaartstores.com/ . This is always a fun exciting event as patrons line up on the sidewalk outside Dakota Art for a chance to purchase their favourite artist’s painting for only $25. The artists donate a 6″ x 6″ painting and a portion of the proceeds go to Bellingham schools to promote art education in Whatcom County, below is my donation.
