The above is the latest from the easel at PatternArt Studio & Gallery. This commissioned piece was a stretch for me, I don’t think I will attempt a blended sunset this size using acrylic paint again. The problem with acrylic paint is as the pigment dries it darkens, sometimes a lot so you have to try to determine before hand what the final color value will be. I haven’t painted very much with oil, I do like the versatility of acrylic paint but I think oil paint would be better for painting blended skies. This painting will land in Chuckanut Bay Gallery soon, the current exhibit opening this weekend is the Whatcom Artist Studio Tour 2024 show. I decided not to sign up for the tour this year, I’m keeping pretty busy in the studio these days and decided to take a break this year, maybe next year I’ll dive in again.
I wanted to post this old painting to show I do occasionaly paint with oil. I think the painting was aound 18″ x 24″ so quite a bit smaller than Chuckanut Sunset. I would like to paint more cloud/sky paintings with oil paint in the future, maybe when things settle down a little.
