This new painting is 14″ x 18″, acrylic on panel, sticking with the Northwest Forest theme for two upcoming exhibitions. Now that this painting is complete I will be building an oak frame to complete the image and get it ready to show. I buy 1″ x 3″ oak moulding from Lowes, miter the corners with my chop saw and glue it up in the miter clamps. Then come the inset pieces to hold the painting in place, which are mitered and glued in place. When the frame comes out of the clamps, its is sanded with an orbital sander, then treated with a coat or two of benite to seal the wood before staining, this ensures even stain coverage across the frame. I really enjoy the frame building part of the finished piece, wood craft added to finished art. This painting and others will be on display, accompanied by Nancy Canyon’s incredible paintings this June 2020 at the downtown WWU Annex in the Herald Building, see you there.
